Projects

Striving towards a fully empowered community, TALISDA Foundation is working on a broad range of projects in collaboration with equally committed partners. We are proud to practice a holistic approach, taking social, environmental and economic aspects into account. We also consider cross-cutting issues such as HIV/Aids, Gender and people living with disability.

Early Childhood Education Project
We want to establish a Early Childhood Education Centre in Korogwe.  Please watch our video and learn how you can help us.

Pamoja Tuwalee
Let’s care together (for our children) The project is a comprehensive program supported by USAID to empower vulnerable families. We collect data about MVC (Most Vulnerable Children) and advocate their needs among the local authorities (fighting for free health care and school meals). Furthermore we focus on mobilising local volunteer structures, such as microcredit groups (LIMCA) and MVC-committees, providing training and supervision. In schools, we implemented Children’s Rights Clubs to educate children about speaking up, reducing violence in schools and fighting drop-out rates. The overall goal is to improve the community’s standard of living and independence through economic-strengthening, livelihood education and empowerment and additionally keeping our children healthy, stable and safe.

WEKEZA
Wezesha Ustawi, Endeleza Kiwango cha Elimu Kuzuia Ajira Kwa Watoto/ Supporting Livelihood and Developing Quality Education to Stop Child Labor The project is designed to provide services to at-risk and working children, unemployed youth, and their families to reduce the incidence of child labor, focusing on the agriculture and domestic services sectors. On the one hand, project activities include direct education, livelihoods and youth employment services and technical assistance. On the other hand we reach out for authorities to include child labor in national educational, agricultural and other social protection policies and programs. We aim to change attitudes within target communities regarding child labor, raising awareness on the negative effects of underage domestic service.

Mombo Education Project

TALISDA implemented this project in collaboration with the Foundation of Civil Society (FCS) to empower the communities to fight low school attendance (pupils/teachers) in primary schools on their own.

We reached out for 32 primary schools in Mombo division to gather and train 6 Ward Education Committees who were responsible to address problems such as inappropriate school toilets; broken blackboards; shortage of desks, rooms and food; by contributing own resources.

The idea was to increase attendance morale by adequate facilities and especially in cause of own contribution. We also sensitized the community about the importance of Primary Education. It turned out that pupils and teachers attendance increased measureable and as a consequence the drop-out rate dropped by 2%.

Nursery School

Since 2011 we are proud to host a quality Nursery School. In average the school is attended by 30 children between three and six years, who are divided in two classes. We see affordable education as a key element to improve and empower the community in the long-run. Our teachers carefully and successfully prepare the young pupils for private and public Primary Education. Classes focus on reading, writing and basic asthmatics but also leave space for singing (Kiswahili, English) and games to guarantee playful learning. Additionally we provide an inclusive nutritious meal every single day.

Driving School

Since 2010 we also offer services as a Driving School as part of our Youth Career Development program. Our plan is to empower community members by mobility and increasing career opportunities that come with an official driver’s license. Our one month-long course covers theoretical and practical lessons to provide optimal preparation. Through campaigns we already reached over 800 people, which is even more crucial since we are the only Driving School in Korogwe Township.
